Either way, you should check mirrors, blind spots and the camera when reversing no matter what. When this happens, the engine should be turned off immediately to prevent further damage. 1. Loose or bad gas cap. It is possible for the check engine light to come on in Outback due to a loose or bad gas cap.We now just turn it off. The other issue is on occasion when we put the Forester in reverse, the light on the info screen for the rear braking doesn't come on, and the dash actually says "RAB Disabled". It doesn't go away until the car is driven for a bit or turned off. Putting it back into park the into reverse again, etc doesn't fix it.
